Amias Channer – Curriculum Vitae I am looking for a role where I can use my programming, analysis and sysadmin skills with Linux / Open source software in a structured environment. Over the last ten years I have worked for a wide range of internet focused companies. My work has included straight forward software development on a project basis to full life cycle deployment of an appliance, to maximising in house websites. When I started working with the internet it was common to do a bit of both hardware and software so I have never had a problem configuring and building new servers as well as writing and deploying the code to run on them . I've worked in agencies, for my own company, freelance and full-time, so am very used to communicating my ideas to customers , managers and developers alike. I have specialised in growing projects and building in scalability .I am keen advocate of open-source technologies and advise local community groups on IT issues , I have written for Linux Format several times on web technologies and more recently a large feature on open source music. I programmed the system from scratch in Perl, JavaScript and HTML to run on WindowsNT, Linux or FreeBSD. The system used a unique two-pane shopping list system and strong encryption Earl – http://earl.amias.org.uk/ Earl is an online bookmark manager which allows users to add bookmarks via a collection of bookmarklets and a web based interface to a SQL database. Bookmarks can be organised into categories and be shared or kept private amongst groups. When clicking a link out of the Earl system to a bookmark, the programme records the user name, time of use and URL. This data is then used to gauge the popularity and relevance of a bookmark .This allows for more informed searching of links in Earl. I still develop earl in my spare time. Ecotalk – http://www.ecotalk.org.uk/ Ecotalk is a website hosting mp3 recordings of environment focused speeches given by some of the worlds leading experts on ecology. I built the site my self using the Catalyst Perl Framework and only open source tools. I do all the technical stuff from keeping the site going to training people to record well. The site is not fully launched yet , the link is the testing version. Teamrubber - 2007 I worked closely with the management and developers to specify and build an innovative high performance object relational mapper.
